Thesis title: “CFD Investigation of Turbidity Spikes in a Water Distribution Pipe Networks”.

Synopsis: The research involved two main steps. A comprehensive CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) investigation was carried out to predict the complex hydrodynamic behavior of the turbid particles flowing through a drinking water distribution networks. This study was demonstrated for both steady and unsteady turbulent flow using Multiphase Mixture Model available in a well known commercial CFD code FLUENT 6.1. Furthermore, an extended analytical Turbulent Diffusion Model was re-developed for the liquid-solid system to investigate the similar behavior of the solid particles flowing through a horizontal pipe. These two parallel studies broadened an understandings about the turbidity spikes movements caused by suspended solid in the distribution networks.

Thesis title: “Development of a Mathematical Model for Mixing Two Different Gases at Constant Proportion for Variable flow Rates”.

Synopsis: This study involved development of a mathematical model using MathCAD 8.0 to optimise the dimensions of a mechanism (carburetor) to manufacture a mechanism. This mechanism was made to generate synthetic biogas to have continuous and uninterrupted supply of biogas at a required ratio of mixing gases. This mixture would be useful as a replacement of biogas for research purposes. This mechanism was manufactured and tested in a laboratory and the results showed a great opportunity of making biogas synthetically to use it for research purpose such as IC engines and/or habitat appliances performance test in laboratory.
