Sonargaon University (SU) is established and operated by Sonargaon University (SU) Trust. The Trust is registered, non-political, non-profit voluntary organization. The members of SU Trust are mostly eminent entrepreneur from academic arena, felt the need for a private university to bring quality education within the reach of students with modest economic means.
Having fulfilled the requirements as laid down in the Private University Act 2010, and after obtaining the necessary clearance from the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and the permission of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) through the ministry of education, SU started its operation in 18 November 2012. The charter of SU as framed within the provision of the Act 2010; the Government empowers the university to confer degrees diplomas and certificates in various disciplines. The curricula as well as the programs of the university have been dully approved by the UGC. The Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is the chancellor of SU. The Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer are appointed by the Chancellor and the president of the country.
